A testament of time and the power of the wind.
It was an 8-mile round-trip hike. Melanie, Alma, and I set out with a clear goal: to reach a specific spot for the perfect photograph. As we walked, we were awestruck by the Grand Canyon’s breathtaking views. The sky was clear, allowing us to see for miles. But what truly etched itself into my memory was the sheer, nearly vertical drop hundreds of feet below us. This is one of the many challenges of exploration; you must remain vigilant, as a drop like that is often mere inches away.
When we reached the end of our hike, we discovered that the trailhead was closed for plant restoration. Initially frustrated by this setback, we soon understood the necessity of the closure and decided to turn back. As we retraced our steps, I reflected on the situation. I reminded myself, "It's okay if we didn't get the shot that I wanted, and that I will continue my search. When there is darkness, it is because there is light, that darkness, or shadow if you will, blinds you."
Life is all about perspective. During that hike, I was focused solely on my goal, missing out on the beauty around me. As we made the U-turn, we stumbled upon an unexpected treasure: a surreal rock formation shaped by wind and sand over a thousand years. I stood in awe, contemplating the stories it could tell. The air was cold and crisp, and the wind howled through the canyons below. I raised my camera and captured the moment, freezing time with a click.
This image, though different from my usual pursuit, resonated deeply with me. For the post-processing, I chose a black-and-white scheme to enhance its dynamic quality. I hope you enjoy this piece, which I’ve named "Pillar Of Time." Capturing it was an unforgettable experience.
